I was asked a question today by a colleague I wasn't able to answer confidently and wanted a second opinion. Supposing a distribution of scores, if one is exactly one standard deviation away from the mean and I'm trying to determine how to apply a rule that categorizes scores as "within 1 SD", "between 1 & 2 SDs", etc... how would you categorize the specified score?

As always, thanks in advance.
